EDHEC's European Apprenticeship Track Confirms its Success

Published on February 12, 2007

Since January 2006, EDHEC Business School has offered its Master in Management (Grand Ecole) students the chance to follow the European Apprenticeship Track in Paris.

In just over a year, this version of the Master in Management programme has formed links with almost 50 partner companies and offers students a total immersion in professional life by alternating periods of coursework and company placements

The idea of apprenticeships has known a strong upward trend recently and indeed 80% of apprentices are taken on by their company at the end of their training period. This success rate has encouraged the French government to double the number of apprentices throughout higher educational establishments before 2010.

One year on, the results of EDHEC's European Apprenticeship Track are also encouraging, with the number of participants increasing from 32 in 2006 to 55 in 2007 and with a wider diversity in the sectors of industry, functions and companies to which the apprentices can now apply. The truly European dimension of this option has also now become well established.

Laurent Aléonard, European Apprenticeship Track Director summed up the goal of this special programme. The European Apprenticeship Track aims to continue its missions;  training future managers through a innovative pedagogy and providing them with a true understanding of the company. It aims to integrate training in a multicultural European environment and propose divers career possibilities thanks to a broad range of partners.

This variation of the Master in Management programme, alternates periods of complete immersion in a company with periods of study and integrating one term in a European university. The final year of the Master concludes with a longer period of total immersion in a partner company to finalise the professional project and hopefully lead towards a full time position.

Future Plans

Summer programmes are to be offered to the students in EDHEC's international partner institutes and the Springboard for European Mobility Workshop is to be set up to encourage students to present ideas for an expatriation project.
