The 4L Trophy Rally, a student humanitarian event involving almost 1000 4L cars, 2000 participants, a 6000 km drive and 70 tons of school supplies finished in Marrakech on 22nd February with EDHEC's five-car team coming 39th out of almost 1000 participants.
The 11th edition of the event began in Paris on the 14th of February 2008 in Paris with 999 little Renault 4Litre cars on the starting line. Each was set to follow the 6000 km journey through France, Spain and Morocco to transport school supplies for schools in difficulty in North Africa.
This year some 2000 students from all over France participated in the event and collected around 70 tons of school supplies along the way. These school bags and school supplies were then offered to Moroccan children encountered along the adventure.
Alix Aoust, EDHEC student from Nice campus tells us her story:
In October 2007, three other students from EDHEC Nice and myself decided to participate in the event. We created a non-profit association, ABCDésert, in order to participate and collect funds. In fact, we searched for partners and garages to help us in the assessment of our budget. The costs for registration were about 3100€ and then the total budget of the project was about 6000€. Our team was sponsored by various firms such as Virbac (Pharmaceutical Laboratory for Vetenary products), Peradotto (infography), BNP Paribas (Bank) and associations like the Automobile Club de Nice.
In general our sponsors were really involved in this humanitarian project. We were given bags and pens, paper and notebooks and in total we got the necessary 50 Kg of school supplies, sportswear and sports equipment.
It was a great experience to discover landscapes of Morocco and to learn
about a sport of speed and driving in the desert. The organisation was also very efficient with technical and medical assistanec throughout the journey. The bivouac ( tents were all the competitors met to sleep at night ) were well indicated and the hospitality of the local population was great!. We tasted the local foods and chilly nights in the desert!
The 4L Trophy rally has a real humanitarian dimension as it represents an act of solidarity and generosity. Indeed, each crew aims to collect and deliver school supplies to the Moroccan League of Children Protection (LMPE)
