Theseus-EDHEC MBA

EDHEC Professor N°1

NIKKI HARLE June 12, 2008
The quality of professors is what many students consider an important deciding factor in their choice of business school. With this in mind, EDHEC Business School selects the very best speakers from three different sources - permanent professors from EDHEC, visiting professors from some of the most prestigious institutions from around the world and industry experts who are brought in to share their expertise in their specialised field.

EDHEC is pleased to announce that recently recruited Florencio López de Silanes has come second in the 2008 edition of the ScienceWatch rankings of management and economics professors by the number of citations of their work in academic journals. This makes him N°1 in this ranking for professors in Europe.

F Lopez de SilanesThe Science Watch rankings are the benchmark for the international academic community: they are drawn up by Thomson Reuters and are based on an analysis of 11,000 academic journals, 10 million articles, and a 10-year cycle of publications. This is the first time in years that a professor at a French school of higher education is among the five most widely cited economics and management professors in the world.

Florencio López de Silanes is head of a new research programme on regulation and mutual fund governance at the EDHEC Risk and Asset Management Research Centre. He has a doctorate in economics from Harvard. Before coming to EDHEC, he taught at Harvard, Yale, and the University of Amsterdam, as well as at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris.

Professor López de Silanes's research interests revolve around corporate governance, international corporate finance, market finance, the competitiveness of legal systems, and privatisation. He has advised governments, international organisations, and businesses on these issues.

His work has appeared in the major international financial and economics journals and he has recently written two books on investor protection and corporate governance, as well as on the positive results of privatisations in Latin America.

Other leading experts who have been on campus recently include Dave Snowden, specialist in Sensemaking in the MSc in Strategic Management class, Philippe Mihailovich, who shared his passion for Brand Architecture with the MSc in Marketing Management students and Dr Celine Rochon from Oxford University who advised MSc in Risk and Asset Management students in the field of Options and Futures.

Professor Metais, programme director of the Theseus-EDHEC MBA talks about the School's policy to recruit high profile professors.

We select professors and guest speakers who will not only share their expertise and bring the latest techniques into the classroom, but ones who will also push participants to develop their full potential.

The MBA faculty is made up of both permanent and visiting professors from around the world (Wharton, Bocconi, Rutgers...). Of course, each professor is selected for his pedagogical and academic qualities and all our speakers are undeniable experts in their field. All have a significant track record of addressing an audience of international students or experienced professionals (CV's available on website).

When selecting our speakers, over and above the obvious requirements, we seek enthusiasm, availability and the ability to listen.
